Crystal and Glass Jewelry
Czech Glass Beads. These beads are world-famous for quality, not only in beads, but other
items including perfume bottles, vases, goblets, a much more fancy things that I don't know anything about. Czech beads are made in
the Czechoslovakian Republic (duh!) and have the same vibrancy as the Swarovski Crystal, and are supposed to be a cheaper alternative
to Swarovski. However, I'm finding that the price of Czech glass is only pennies lower than Swarovski.
Swarovski Crystal Beads (also called Austrian Crystal). Swarovski sets the standard for cut, clarity, brilliance,
and consistency in beads. Swarovski Crystal is fired using a combination of natural minerals and quartz sand, and then cooled
slowly to avoid stress and inclusions (bad spots). Mad in Austria, Swarovski products are considered to be one of the finest
products of their kind in the world. Unlike Czech glass, these are machine polished and are higher in cost.
In order to create a crystal that allows light to refract in a rainbow spectrum, Swarovski coats some of its crystals with special
metallic chemical coatings. Aurora Borealis, or "AB", is one of the most popular coatings, and gives the surface a rainbow oil slick appearance.

trick! Using my 22-Gauge bright silver-plated non-tarnish wire, I
first made a loop, alternately threaded on 4mm black Czech Glass and
6mm round bright green Czech beads, did a little more loop-de-doo
and then attached the bright silver-plated surgical steel
hypoallergenic fish hook style ear wires.

What are "Hooty Tooty" ear-bobs? They're earrings
made with ear wires that are 92.5% pure Sterling Silver. The "92.5%" or
".925" pure Sterling silver means that the metal is made using a
combination of 92.5% silver and usually 7.5% copper. The copper is added
to strengthen silver, because 100% silver is really soft and can be easily
damaged. 100% pure silver could actually soften at room temperature! So -
now you know!
Given that Sterling silver is easily bent and
tarnished, I've decided to keep using silver-plated
*findings in my "Hooty Tooty" earrings so they'll
last longer, look nicer, and not tear up as easily. (*Earring
findings are the metal things
in the earring - the
little rings, the separators, wire, etc.)

I'm excited about these earrings because I learned a new trick! I used 22 Gauge Round
Half-Hard German Sterling Silver/40 silver-filled wire made a loop,
added some gorgeous two-toned smoke Czech glass beads and bronze
rondelles, and did a little more loop-de-doo and then attached the
.925 Stamped Sterling Silver Hooks.
These earrings are a smidge shorter than 2
inches, I'd say they are 1.8 inches from the top of the ear wire to
the bottom of the tea-colored beads.
