Agate. This hard stone is similar to quartz, except that the crystals are small - not large like quartz. You can find agate in just about every color of the rainbow. Some folks say that agate will ground and balance you, plus bring abundance, wealth, protection, love, and connection with the natural world.	Amethyst. This gemstone is basically purple quartz and comes in all shades of purple. Some folks believe amethyst is also thought to have philosophical, spiritual, and material powers. It was a prized stone of Ancient Egypt royalty, favored by Russia's Catherine the Great of Russia, and it even has an honored place in the crown jewels of England. Why not? It's my favorite because it's my birthstone. :)
Garnet. Garnet occurs in every color except for blue and most varieties are named for their color. Currently, I have the deep purple-red color of Garnet. As the official birthstone of January, some folks think that garnet symbolizes faith, devotion, and truth. It tends to have strong supportive energy and even is believed to regulate the heart and blood flow.	Hematite. Hematite is a very common mineral consisting of iron oxide with colors ranging from steel gray to almost black, brown to reddish brown, or red. Some folks believe that this gemstone is known to maintain ones sense of self and deflect negativity from outside sources. Hematite can also enhance memory and the bodies energy.
Jasper. Jasper is found in nearly any color of the rainbow. It often contains organic material which gives it unique patterns, bands, and colors. Many say that these patterns resemble landscapes with mountains and valleys. Some folks say that Jasper provides grounding and protection against negativity.	Lapis Lazuli. Technically, lapis is considered a rock, not a mineral. The reason is because it is a combination of various minerals and to be considered a mineral it would have only one component. The more valuable lapis is a strong blue, sometimes with a hint of violet. The more white patches (calcite) there are, the less valuable it becomes. Small veins of pyrite (a gold color) are often prized.
Moonstone. The moonstone gem is a type of feldspar (an important group of rock-forming minerals which make up perhaps as much as 60% of the Earth's crust). It is usually whitish-blue, but can be colorless, yellow, orange, gray, or even reddish. On the other hand, Opalite is a glass manmade stone that resembles an opal.	Peridot. As the official birthstone of August, peridot ranges in color from green to yellow. Ancient Romans called peridot "evening emerald" because it maintained its color and did not darken as the sunlight faded. Some folks say that peridot encourages peace and happiness, and attracts success and good luck.
Rhodochrosite. Rhodochrosite is a mineral - not a stone. It is a very attractive mineral with a beautiful color. The ore of manganese helps create the beautiful pink color. It is found in Argentina, Peru, Colorado and Montana, U.S, and Quebec, Canada.	Rhodonite. Rhodonite is a mineral similar to Rhodochrosite, especially in color, however Rhodonite much harder. Rhodonite is typically a deep pink to mauve color with inclusions of black, although the stone can also be red, orange, or completely black. Some folks believe that Rhodonite will decrease anxiety and increase language skills, self-esteem, and passion. Some say Rhodonite will help restore physical energy after a trauma.
Sardonyx: Sardonyx is a variety of onyx which is a form of banded chalcedony (cryptocrystalline quartz) or agate. The name sardonyx derives from the word "sard" and "onyx" relating to the striped or banded appearance of layers of white, grey or black interspersed with reddish brown. As a variety of quartz, sardonyx is reasonably strong although prone to chips and scratches.	Sodalite. It is found in light to dark pure blue color and is well known in the semi-precious stone world. The name sodalite is in reference to its high sodium content. Some folks think it can increase one's confidence and to enhance creativity, and to have a balancing effect on one's emotions and mental state. It is also said to enhance self expression and communication, to eliminate confusion, bring peace and to facilitate spiritual growth.
Snowflake Obsidian. Obsidian is a natural glass that forms from volcanic activity and the white 'snowflake' crystal patterns are due to the mineral Cristobalite. It is made of the same minerals as granite, but cools quickly when exposed to air that the minerals do not have time to crystallize. It is extremely rich in silica (about 35-80%) and is fragile, being only slightly harder than window glass. It scratches very easily and sharp blows are likely to crack it. The Snowflake Obsidian gemstone is rare and not only is Snowflake Obsidian beautiful, some folks think it has healing properties.	Turquoise. The name turquoise is apparently related to the fact that is was brought to Europe from the Eastern Mediterranean by Levantine traders, more commonly known as Turks. Its been used as a valuable ornament for ages and was used by the Egyptians thousands of years ago. The color is, of course, turquoise, but its range of color varies from green and greenish blue to sky blue shades.

Southern Angel's Sterling Silver "Hooty Tooty" Ear-bobs

What are "Hooty Tooty" ear-bobs? They're earrings made with ear wires that are 92.5% pure Sterling Silver. The "92.5%" or ".925" pure Sterling silver means that the metal is made using a combination of 92.5% silver and usually 7.5% copper. The copper is added to strengthen silver, because 100% silver is really soft and can be easily damaged. 100% pure silver could actually soften at room temperature! So - now you know!

Given that Sterling silver is easily bent and tarnished, I've decided to keep using silver-plated *findings in my "Hooty Tooty" earrings so they'll last longer, look nicer, and not tear up as easily. (*Earring findings are the metal things in the earring - the little rings, the separators, wire, etc.)

These earrings are a smidge shorter than 2 inches, I'd say they are 1.8 inches from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the tea-colored beads.
