That's God

By: Angela Gillaspie © October 1999

We recently visited a 100-year-old farm with cotton fields, cornfields, livestock and pumpkin patches. In the middle of the trip, we went on a two and a half of a mile hayride through a dried up swamp. The bumpy ride jostled us left and right and we couldn't help but grin at the strangers-soon-to-be-friends sitting along side us. We ducked low-lying limbs of trees that had crimson and fiery red-orange leaves. The kids cackled with excitement as they witnessed Mommy trying to unsuccessfully straddle two bales of hay that were slowly separating with each bump. I took a deep breath and smelled the savory hay and sweet sweat of my children. "That's God," I thought to myself.

Tonight, I walked out on my deck and took a deep breath. The smell is rusty and earthy. The breeze rustles the changing leaves in the oak and maple bordering my property. The smell is familiar; it brings back all the fall memories of my youth. I think to myself, "That's God."

How many times have we stopped for a moment to take a deep breath and inhale a thrill to our senses? That's God. He's giving us memories, love, and a sensory hug to let us know.... "Hey! I'm here! Remember this? I was there when you..."

".... walked in the moonlight around 3am when everyone was asleep....

".... inhaled the smell of your child's hair as you hugged his aches away.....

".... experienced the joy of laughing and sharing the pleasure of friendship.....

".... held your precious newborn in your arms.....

".... received Jesus as your Savior.....

".... loved...."

"There are so many experiences to mention. Love your life!"

"I'm there. You may not see Me, but I give you the memories that you will recollect throughout your life."

"I Am."

"This do in remembrance of Me."
